Zawadisha

“Zawadisha is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower, entrust and expand opportunities for women through micro-lending, savings, preventative healthcare, and education. Zawadisha helps women (in Kenya) finance the tools and cultivate the skills they need to improve their quality of life and bolster their resiliency.”  Financing includes “eco-loans for small businesses and items such as solar lamps, clean cook stoves, and rainwater harvesting tanks. (…) Culturally relevant and accessible financial and leadership training are paired with the loans.”  Zawadisha’s “model is building a stronger world, one in which women are self-sufficient, successful, and stand on their own two feet.”

Centre of African Bio-Entrepreneurship (CABE) is a knowledge sharing and learning NGO based in Nairobi, with a strong presence in Samia District, Kenya.  CABE helped launch the NEF pilot project at Busijo Secondary School in 2012.  Staff at CABE provide project assistance and guidance and handle financial transactions in Kenya to ensure that NEF donations are properly distributed to the beneficiaries.  The organization builds capacity of smallholder farmers and youth in agri-foods systems, and facilitates their linkages to markets and other services. CABE promotes improved food and income security through farmer-youth groups and table banking in the production and marketing of tree, crop and livestock enterprises. CABE’s business unit provides capacity building services in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
