Announcing NEF’s New Scholarship Beneficiaries

We are excited to announce the 2023 NEF scholarship recipients! Among the new beneficiaries are four young men, the first time since NEF was launched that we’ve awarded scholarships to male students. In addition, NEF is now partnering with a second community school near Lake Victoria, called St. Stephen’s Bujwang’a Mixed Day Secondary School.

The following students are in Form 2 (Sophomore), Form 3 (Junior) and Form 4 (Senior), and they were chosen from an applicant pool of more than 55 students across both schools. To be eligible for support the student must display significant financial need; be disciplined and dedicated to their studies; hold a C or higher; display leadership qualities; and have commitment from their parents/guardians.

Recent Graduates

Beatrice Ogana

A former NEF scholarship recipient at Busijo Secondary School, Beatrice graduated from a nearby high school and dreamed of continuing her education. She enrolled in a local vocational training institute and was ready to start the first semester, but she could not raise the tuition. She had lost her father many years earlier and her mother struggled to provide for her family. With financial support from NEF, Beatrice was able attend Bumbe Technical Training Institute in Kenya, near Lake Victoria, and she successfully completed a 2-year certificate program in catering and hospitality in July 2023.

Akinyi Harriet

Harriet graduated from Busijo Secondary School in 2018 with support from NEF. She was the top performing student in her class. Scoring well on the Kenya nation secondary school exam (KCSE), Harriet was offered a spot at Rongo University in the Kitere Hills of Western Kenya. With continued financial support from NEF for her university tuition and lodging, Harriet was able to pursue a B.A. Degree in Education with a focus on the sciences. Harriet graduated in October 2023 in the presence of her mother and NEF staff.

I can now say, "If it were not God and the Nasirumbi Education Fund I couldn't have made it". Thank you very much!
